Volcanoes erupt on Smithsonian

Friday, August 9th, 2019

In the summer of 2018 two powerful active volcanoes – Kilauea in Hawaii and Fuego in Guatemala – erupted. Thousands of people were made homeless and hundreds died. Now scientists on the ground are attempting to predict what will happen next. VOLCANOES: DUAL DESTRUCTION (September 17th at 8pm) features exclusive eyewitness footage that tells both the scientific and human story of these two deadly disasters.

The film interweaves the stories of the two eruptions and the events that followed over the course of a 30-day period. It explores the remarkable geological differences between the two volcanoes, explaining the devastating chain of events that followed each eruption. The programme incorporates experts from the Smithsonian’s Global Volcanism Program, which uniquely documents all volcanoes on the planet active over the last 10,000 years. During the early stages of an eruption anywhere in the world it acts as a clearing house for reports, data and imagery. Produced by Emporium, London.

The Global Listings press schedules are very good. Especially as we have very little space in the TV Guide sections, these are still very useful to us. In addition, the Global Listings TV highlights documents and press reports are also a great way for us to make choices of what TV programmes to feature.
