When an assignment in Sweden ends badly, master assassin Jack (George Clooney) retreats to the Italian countryside to lay low for a while. But when he becomes friends with a local priest and pursues a romance with a beautiful woman, Jack may be making a fatal mistake by stepping out of the shadows.
The American (Sunday 2nd August, 9pm) is a stylish suspense thriller directed by Anton Corbijn – who brings the same inimitable eye which made his photo shoots and videos for the likes of Depeche Mode and Joy Division so memorable.
