PBS EXPLORES EUROPE’S FORGOTTEN BORDER

Friday, September 2nd, 2022

PBS: UK Premiere Tuesday 13 September 7.20pm

For many, the Berlin Wall is the great symbol of Cold War division, an implacable barrier dividing Eastern Europe from the West. But it wasn’t the only border between Capitalism and Communism.

Between 1945 and 1989 280 people died trying to cross the 809 kilometre border that separated Czechoslovakia from the West, along with an estimated 600 guards, many of whom took their own lives. Today, those who died are receiving belated justice as investigators press charges against the people responsible.

Europe’s Forgotten Border follows some of these cases, as friends and relatives of the victims search for the truth, hoping that the answers to their questions will bring them peace, and help bring the Czech people together.
