Jessica Fletcher is a widowed former English teacher and a famous writer with a knack for solving mysteries. She unintentionally becomes an amateur detective and, as trouble seems to follow her around, ends up solving various crimes. This time Jessica goes to Las Vegas to attend a major book convention, when the casino manager Jerry Pappas dies from a fall from a penthouse apartment.
