Rum & Revolution: History of Havana

PBS: Monday 10 March at 7.35.pm

In the 1950s, Havana glows with music, casinos, and glamorous cabarets, but beneath the surface, a stark divide between wealth and poverty thrives as the American Mafia pulls the strings.

U.S. tourists, free from Prohibition’s grip, indulge in the island’s escapism, while celebrities like Hemingway and Sinatrasoak in Havana’s vibrant nightlife. However, beneath the façade, corruption thrives, as dictator Batista secretly partners with mobsters to turn Cuba into a Caribbean Las Vegas, deepening the struggles of the Cuban people.

This tension sets the stage for Castro’s revolution, which, in 1959, ends U.S. dominance and changes the course of Cuban history. Don’t miss this gripping tale of a city on the brink.

The Global Listings press schedules are very good. Especially as we have very little space in the TV Guide sections, these are still very useful to us. In addition, the Global Listings TV highlights documents and press reports are also a great way for us to make choices of what TV programmes to feature.
