The Cure for Hate: Bearing Witness to Auschwitz

PBS: UK PREMIERE Tuesday 27 May at 9.50pm

Tony McAleeris a former skinhead and Holocaust denier who went on to become a founding member of the anti-hate activist group Life After Hate.

Profoundly aware and deeply ashamed of the ideologies he once promoted, Tony travelled tothe Auschwitz/Birkenau death camp in Poland in the spirit of tshuvah – to bear witness to the ravages of the Holocaust, repent his wrongs and deepen his work against the rise of extremist politics.

This film documents McAleer’s profoundly personal journey of atonement, exploring the conditions that allowed for the rise of fascism in 1930s Europe, examining how men get into, and out of, violent extremist groups, and underscoring the dangers we face when hate is left unchecked.
