Weathered: After the LA Firestorm
In January 2025, Los Angeles was hit by some of the most catastrophic wildfires in Californian history. The biggest firestorms were in Pacific Palisades and Altadena.
In total, nearly 90,000 square miles of land was burned, with more than 18,000 buildings destroyed and over 200,000 residents forced to flee their homes. Thirty-one people died.
Now, a year after the devastating LA fires, Maiya May returns to the city to document its rebuilding and investigate survivors’ most pressing questions and concerns. She meets locals who are working to make their community a model for recovery and resilience. This leads her to an inspiring new approach to preventing these disasters, as LA recovers and prepares for a fire-prone future.
