Enter a new world, as this two-part documentary series China On FIlm draws on five decades of footage preserved and digitised by the British Film Institute to reveal a previously unseen China.

Narrated by Christopher Doyle, it’s a journey that stretches from the final decade of the Qing Dynasty to the years before the Communist victory of 1949. Capturing every element of life in the Chinese Republic, it includes foreign troops parading through Shanghai, the death of Dr Sun Yat-Sen and the first colour footage ever shot in China.

From the birth of the Chinese Communist Party to Shanghai in the jazz age, prepare to see China as you have never been seen it before.
