Tune in to Sony Movies Classic for a day of classic comedy and guaranteed laughs from 8.35am! Films include one of the Marx Brothers’ finest feasts of nonsense, Duck Soup, at 10.20. That’s followed at 11.45 by another great comedy about a fictitious European nation: Peter Sellers stars – thrice! – in The Mouse That Roared, a hilarious war satire about the Duchy of Grand Fenwick, whose forces inadvertently stumbles across a weapon that could destroy the Earth. The scheming Prime Minister (Sellers) plots with the Grand Duchess (also Sellers) to declare war on the USA, lose the war, and get that foreign aid. Unfortunately, they forget to tell Tully Bascombe (Sellers again), commander of their medieval army. Through a series of unbelievable circumstances, this man does his best and wins the war, much to the Duchy’s dismay.
Then Peter Potter Jnr. (Bob Hope) heads out West to claim the inheritance left to him by his father, only to discover he has been left nothing but debts in Son of Paleface (3.20pm). The day wraps up with the 1971 film version of Dad’s Army at 5.15pm.
