Carrie White is a lonely 16- year-old girl who endures relentless bullying at school from her classmates, particularly the popular girls. At home, she faces verbal and physical abuse from her fanatically religious mother, Margaret. After a traumatic incident at school when Carrie experiences her first period, one of her tormentors, Chris, is punished for her actions and begins plotting revenge. Meanwhile, Carrie discovers that she has a special gift: telekinetic powers.
