Comic Creators Reflect On FX’s Y: The Last Man

Friday, October 4th, 2019

Brian K Vaughan and Pia Guerra, who created Y: The Last Man, have offered some thoughts on FX’s forthcoming TV version at New York Comic Con. The story follows life on Earth after all men, bar the eponymous Yorick and his pet monkey, mysteriously die.

The topicality of the theme in light of #metoo and the like was a recurring motif: “Now is the right time for it, more than ever. The death of all men doesn’t feel so much like an apocalyptic thing; it’s more like escapist fantasy.”

Vaughan also announced that even one of the two male roles in the story, Amp the monkey, had in the event been taken by a female simian. Showrun by Eliza Clark, the series will premiere in 2020.
