Sassy Tinseltown fairy tale Burlesque (Saturday 27th, 5pm) stars Cher and Christina Aguilera with Julianne Hough, Alan Cumming, Kristen Bell, and Stanley Tucci. LA’s Burlesque Lounge has seen better days. Tess (Cher), a former dancer and owner of the venue, struggles to keep the old theatre going, facing all kinds of financial and artistic challenges. Meanwhile, the life of Ali (Aguilera), a small-town girl from Iowa, is about to change dramatically. Hired by Tess as a waitress, Ali quickly falls in love with the art of burlesque. Encouraged by the theatre’s crew, she manages to fulfil her dreams of becoming a star. The song ‘You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me’, penned by Diane Warren and sung by Cher, won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.

Directed by Baz Luhrmann, this dazzling musical extravaganza tells the story of a young English writer, Christian (Ewan McGregor), who is plunged into the intoxicating world of the Moulin Rouge, and falls in love with the club’s most beautiful cabaret star and courtesan Satine (Nicole Kidman).
The film was nominated for eight Oscars, winning two for Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design.
