PBS: UK PREMIERE Starts Wednesday 15 May at 20:45
This documentary tells the story of pioneering young women who became flight attendants in the mid-20th century, a time when single women were unable to order a drink, eat alone in a restaurant, own a credit card or get a prescription for birth control.
Becoming a “stewardess” as they were known, offered previously unheard-of opportunities for travel, glamour, adventure and independence. Sometimes maligned as feminist sellouts, these women were in fact at the forefront of the bat- tle to assert gender equality and to begin to transform the workplace.
This enlightening film features firsthand accounts, personal stories, and archive footage, telling the vital but neglected history of the women who helped to change the world.
