Fox is developing a drama series with the working title ‘8 Count’, based on the life of respected choreographer and creative director Laurieann Gibson. Singer Mary J. Blige will serve as executive producer and music advisor, with a script by Erika L. Johnson (‘Ugly Betty’, ‘Without a Trace’).
The series follows a young choreographer who gets a chance to redeem her damaged reputation when she meets an up-and-coming singer who also has one last shot at stardom. It is inspired by Gibson’s career, having worked with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, as well as on-screen credits including ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ and ‘Dance Moms’.
Blige has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, won nine Grammy Awards and co-stars in upcoming Netflix movie ‘Mudbound’.
