Hitler’s fascination with propaganda was born in World War One, where it emerged as a potent tool of psychological warfare. He would later use it to build the Nazi movement, exploiting simple rhetoric, striking imagery and his talent as a public speaker to tap into popular discontent.
After a decade of speeches, press articles, posters and campaigning, Hitler was made Chancellor in January 1933. Once in power, he used persuasion and terror to create a German state under one shared ideology.
This three-part series explores Hitler’s propaganda tactics, from his rise through the ranks of the Nazi Party to the second great global war. This one would be fought on many fields of battle – not least in people’s hearts and minds.
