LOVE PARADE – THE TRIAL (Tuesday 25th, 7.20pm) is the story of a festival which began in Berlin in 1989 as a tiny street parade, as 150 people marched for peace and international understanding through love and music. Growing steadily year on year, millions enjoyed the spectacle.
In 2010 the decision was made to hold the festival in Druisberg, in Germany’s industrial heartland. It was a day that ended in disaster. Massive crowds combined with mismanagement on the part of the organisers and the authorities, led to a crowd crush that killed 21 and injured and traumatised another 652. Described as the ‘worst disaster in counter-culture history’, discover how corporate greed and public negligence destroyed the Love Parade dream, as young people from around the world gathered for a music festival.
