Situated on a plateau between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea, Jerusalem is one of the oldest cities in the world, and the meeting point of three great faiths, each of whom consider it holy. Destroyed and rebuilt countless times, its enduring appeal remains a mystery. What made it so important to so many different cultures? How did it become the centre of the world for three major religions? And why does it still matter to us?

As archaeologist Dr Jodi Magness explores the ancient city, JERUSALEM (Thursday 14th, 7.30pm) attempts to answer these questions by following three young Jerusalemites – Jewish, Christian and Muslim – through the celebrations and events that mark a year in the life of the city.
