One PM Central Standard Time

PBS: Saturday 15 February at 1.35pm

On 22nd November 1963, CBS News read out confirmation of the news that the country had been dreading. Anchorman Walter Cronkite told the nation: “From Dallas, Texas, the flash – apparently official; President Kennedy died at 1.00pm Central Standard Time.”

Narrated by George Clooney, this fascinating film looks behind the scenes at one of the biggest news stories of the 20th Century. As news reached the CBS Newsroom in New York from Dallas, Texas, the reporters and editors faced a dilemma – they wanted to be first with the stories but needed to get their facts right before reporting such important news.

This documentary looks at the hour after Lee Harvey Oswald shot the President, Walter Cronkite calling upon his long experience and training as a wire-service reporter to ensure that his viewers received the best possible coverage.
