In 1975, Chris Bonington led an ambitious expedition to conquer Everest’s Southwest Face, with the goal of becoming the first British climbers to reach its summit. Battling freezing temperatures, avalanches, and oxygen shortages, the team faced immense obstacles, while the media predicted failure at every turn.
Against all odds, Doug Scott and Dougal Haston stood atop the 29,035-foot summit on September 24, becoming the first Britons to do so. Their achievement remained unknown to the public for several days, which only added to the drama of their triumph.
This documentary captures the remarkable leadership, courage, and sacrifice that made this one of the most legendary feats in mountaineering history.
