Among the many new trailers coming out of San Diego Comic-Con is one for Syfy’s new George RR Martin adaptation, Nightflyers. Based on a novella he wrote in 1980, long before the fantasy series which would be adapted as Game of Thrones, it follows a voyage into space seeking a new home for humanity.
Discussing the show in San Diego, executive producer Jeff Buhler explained that in looking to weave the appropriate mood for this science fiction/horror hybrid, the creative team had gone right to the motherlode: “We paid homage to the greats: 2001: A Space Odyssey, Psycho, Alien. The lenses were actually the same ones used for Alien.”
No premiere date has yet been confirmed for the series, which stars Jodie Turner-Smith, Eoin Macken and David Ajala.
