Shackleton: The Greatest Story of Survival
PBS: Friday 1 August at 8.30pm
A team of lost adventurers must fight for their lives after their only lifeline is destroyed in the most uninhabitable place on Earth: Antarctica. In 1913, explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton set sail with 27 men, aiming to cross the frozen continent on foot. When their ship became trapped in ice and crushed beyond repair, the crew was forced into a desperate battle to survive as the sea ice they camped on, hundreds of miles from land, was slowly melting. In this epic documentary, partly filmed with IMAX cameras, this incredible true story is told by the only man to have repeated the feat. Tim Jarvis sailed 1,200 miles in the world’s roughest ocean before crossing rugged mountains using the same meagre resources as Shackleton.
