Cobargo in South-East New South Wales was an unremarkable town until it became the focus of what has been described as ‘Australia’s Black Summer’ – the very human face of the terrible bushfires that tore through Australia in late 2019 and into 2020. Spreading with greater speed and intensity than anyone can remember in Australia’s modern history, the bushfires caused devastation across the continent, creating conditions that were unstoppable, and in many cases, un-survivable.
